Greg and Kara Williams purchased Mancino's of Sturgis from Robbie and Brianne Radtke in March of 2022. Kara was the night manager for 5 years prior, working under the previous owners (Kara's brother and sister-in-law). Greg (a Lakeland graduate) and Kara (a Sturgis graduate) have 3 children. All three are frequently seen serving food, preparing food and waiting on customers. All our recipes and dishes are made with care and with the highest quality ingredients. We love our little restaurant and serving our community.
The term "Grinder" dates back to the eastern region of the U.S. during WWI. It's said Italian immigrants worked in the shipyards, setting and "grinding" rivets on the huge warships. At lunch time their wives would bring fresh baked super-sized Italian rolls filled with generous amounts of meats, cheeses, and vegetables. When it was lunch time, the supervisor yelled, "Grinders" lunch! Hence, the word "Grinder" became known as delectable combination of meats, cheeses, and vegetables served on a one of a kind freshly baked bread.
In 1959, the founder of Mancino's, Samuel Sr., opened his first store in St. Clair Shores, MI. He wanted to be his own boss, and provide a future legacy for his family. In 1978, Sam Sr., opened a Mancino's in Sturgis, MI on East Chicago Road, renovating a gas station. When Sam Sr. retired, Mancino's was reopened by Sam Sr.'s son Frank Sr., in the location it is today. This Mancino's remains family-owned, operated, and independent. An original concept Sam Sr. so proudly created.
This Mancino's remains an original tradition, and is determined to keep a piece of Mancino's history alive. We will never compromise our integrity by giving false size grinders, and promise only the highest quality of food, great value, and generous portions. No gimmicks - no tricks.
